Every year, over 40,000 Ohioans are victims of violent crimes according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Those crimes include murder, rape, and aggravated assault. Ohio supports many of these survivors through the Ohio Crime Victims Compensation Fund. Since 1976, it has paid out more than $300 million to victims. Eligible to receive payment from this fund are those injured during a violent crime, the dependents of people killed in crimes or anyone who is responsible for a crime victim's finances, such as a parent or a guardian.
